As a representative body for energy sector companies, SAPEG will through member-specific needs: - Assess members’ compliance to Acts, Laws, Regulations and Licensing as Constituted by the Department of Minerals and Energy
- Act as a lobbying agent and be a representative body for members for various issues of concern at all levels of Government, Energy Sector Forums and within the Energy Industry as a whole
- Create interactive networks that are structured according to members’ needs
- Negotiate supply contracts which will enable the organizations to function competitively within the industry
- Facilitate off-take agreements for members which are fair and just.
- Monitor and assess compliance to health, safety and environmental concerns as well as adherence to ethical business practices of all member organizations
- Sign Memoranda of Understanding with strategic partners for the benefit of our members
- Initiate and maintain common Information Technology interface platforms with regards to administrative, banking, technical and logistics functioning of member organizations
- Consolidate and rationalise access to logistics (pipeline, road, rail & depots) for all members in a transparent and equitable manner
- Co-ordinate strategic relations with the Department of Minerals and Energy and
- Contribute to the development of regulations in the Gas market and other areas of need
- Monitor compliance of its members’ adherence to Corporate Social Investment by aiding in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the programmes
- Evaluate policy changes (deregulation, MPAR, new licenses, NER etc.) through extended involvement with the relevant government departments and advise members on its impact within the industry
- Work with SASDA (South African Supplier Development Agency) to enable and accredit Black Economic Empowerment companies so that they may adequately supply petroleum products and be active participants within the energy industry.
- Develop and maintain a Data Bank of all energy sector companies within South Africa and be a conduit for information transfer and sharing.
